First Blog Post!

Hi! My name is Dyan Scotti and I’m from Miami, Florida! I am currently a junior at Florida State University studying Human Development and Family Sciences with minors in Psychology and Education! I absolutely love learning about child psychology and child development and I hope to teach elementary school in the future. I currently work full time at a preschool in downtown Tallahassee as a full time teachers aid in the Pre-Kindergarten classroom and I love every minute of it. I have a huge passion for music, I have been playing string instruments since second grade, and a passion for the outdoors, I love hiking or kayaking! 

I have had to use many different technological platforms throughout my education. The first experience using technology in a school setting would be when we were taught how to use Microsoft PowerPoint in third grade. Throughout my high school and now college experience I have used many different platforms, from all the Microsoft sites, to website making sites, educational games, different photoshop sites, video editing etc. My favorite site to use of all time in Canva, even on the free site there are so many free templates and they are always customizable. I have used Canva to make many different invitations, itineraries, pamphlets and even stuff for my classroom. 

When it comes to my personal learning networks, there aren’t too many different sources I use. I mostly use quizlet to memorize information and study if I am alone, I like the different games they offer to help you study. Of course I also use different Florida State University resources for school like our FSU portal and Canvas to get directly to my schoolwork. When it comes to offline resources I always have a planner or list of some sort with everything I need to do written down, this is the best way for me to stay organized and remember everything that I need to do.

 When I was looking for teacher pages on a school website, the types of information that I found on the teacher pages was a picture of them, what grade and class they teach, their work email, class website, and phone number. I think that it was very easy to find this teacher page, all the you have to do is log onto the school’s website, click our school and click faculty and staff. If you go to the search bar and type in teachers, different sites from Leon county school come up. These include different school sites, faculty and staff pages for other schools and teacher portals. I found it even easier to scope the page out for faculty and staff rather than type it in the search bar.  https://www.leonschools.net/Page/52909   I think I will easily be able to use technology to accomplish my professional responsibilities once I teach.  When I was doing distance l earning during COVID-19, I actually felt like I was much more organized and on top of my work. I think this was the case because I had a lot more free time and was spending my time doing assignments rather than spending a lot of time in my electives, or lunch, or even driving to and from school. The one thing I had a really hard time with while doing distance learning was my more rigorous classes like my AP Psychology class and my Orchestra class. Trying to prep for a AP exam through zoom made it difficult for me to focus and I got distracted easily while at home. I couldn’t imagine how much more difficult it would be teaching through distance learning, because it is so hard to connect with your students this way, however, I would probably try to come up with engaging assignments that were interactive and helped get my point across in the lesson.  Open educational resources are resources that are open for use to anyone.   As a teacher I think it is very important to be knowledgeable about copyright and fair use. I think it is especially important to be educated on the topic when it comes to classroom materials like for instruction, tests, class work and homework. I do think when it comes to the students it might be easier to avoid copyright when the students are still younger but when it comes to the older students that are using more technology, it will be more difficult to ensure they are using themselves only. Using programs that will scan for copyright like turn it   in, or   teaching how to use proper citations and/or summarization will help avoid copyright from your students.   I think a solution to decreased productivity for students would be making sure that students do not have access to other platforms on their devices during the time that they’re in class.
