As a teacher I think it is very important to be knowledgeable about copyright and fair use. I think it is especially important to be educated on the topic when it comes to classroom materials like for instruction, tests, class work and homework. I do think when it comes to the students it might be easier to avoid copyright when the students are still younger but when it comes to the older students that are using more technology, it will be more difficult to ensure they are using themselves only. Using programs that will scan for copyright like turn it in, or teaching how to use proper citations and/or summarization will help avoid copyright from your students.
I think a solution to decreased productivity for students would be making sure that students do not have access to other platforms on their devices during the time that they’re in class. For example, I have taken tests before on my laptop, but I had to download Honorlock onto my computer, which did not allow me to open any other tabs on my computer and recorded both me, and my screen. My implementing systems like this on assignments, you are sure that both the student isn’t cheating, and they cannot get distracted by being able to open other tabs on their device. Another way you can improve decreased productivity due to access to technology is just ensuring that your students do not have access to their phones during class.
I think 100% that AI programs are hurting student’s learning. I think that students have gotten very lazy and started to use the programs negatively. I personally do not see any positive effects of AI in a classroom and the easy access that we have to programs like ChatGPT is causing students to put less quality into their work. Students just get along passing by using AI but when it comes to tests and exams you have only hurt yourself by eventually not knowing the information.
