The standard that I am looking at today is Standard 1: Responsible use of technology and information under the Body of Knowledge: COMPUTER SCIENCE-PERSONAL, COMMUNITY, GLOBAL, AND ETHICAL IMPACT. This standard is for the grade levels Kindergarten through second grade, but I am focusing more on kindergarten. This standard explains that students should be able to show how to properly care for an electronic device like shutting it off, being careful with how you handle it etc. It also explains how to make sure you’re communicating and using online services in a safe way and while also maintaining your privacy like not sharing your information, taking to strangers, how to identify inappropriate content, and picking an appropriate password. I think that yes, with my current skill set I would be able to teach and implement this standard in a classroom of kindergarteners. Hopefully, most children this age should be able to relate the responsibility of taking care of something fragile to something in their own home and also understand the importance of not talking to strangers.
On the CPALMS Educator Toolkit site, I chose Language Arts for Kindergarteners. The standard that I chose was ELA.K12.EE.1.1 Cite evidence to explain and justify reasoning. The resource I chose is a lesson plan titled It’s All in the Details. The students are to analyze the covers of the book and use those text features to guess the topic or plot. While the book is being read the students are supposed to confirm the topic using details and organize them in a graphic organizer. A resource like this definitely will help the students understand the importance of context clues to figure out something that may not be explicitly stated, and the fact that the information is supposed to be separated into a graphic organizer will help the students stay organized and view the information in a different form, which may help some more visual learners.
I think it is important to be a proficient internet searcher as a teacher because almost all of our information comes from the internet nowadays. Most of our resources come form online platforms and knowing what sites and sources to use will help dramatically. Also knowing how obtain new information without the fluff of extra information you sometimes find on Google will cut your searching time in half. Advanced search is something that I have used before but always forget to use, so moving forward, advanced search will definitely be something that I will utilize more often. It is so helpful to be able to exclude certain words in a search and I wish I used advanced search more often.
